The floatability of copper oxide ores is typically worse than that of copper sulfide ores, and is greatly impacted by the visibility of copper in the mineral and the make-up of the gangue. For instance, when copper exists in the form of carbonates (such as malachite and azurite), its floatability is fairly good. When it exists in the type of silicates (such as chrysocolla), its floatability is inadequate. Free copper oxide minerals are very easy to float, while bound copper oxide can basically not be recovered by a single flotation protection method.
