MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — LinkedIn today announced its own metaverse platform called “LinkedIn Horizon”. This move directly challenges Facebook parent Meta’s virtual reality ambitions. The professional network aims to reshape remote work and digital networking.
LinkedIn Horizon offers interactive 3D spaces for professionals. Users create avatars to attend virtual meetings, conferences, and networking events. Offices, seminar halls, and industry expos exist in this digital world. The platform integrates with LinkedIn’s existing job search and profile tools.
Meta previously launched its Horizon Workrooms for virtual collaboration. LinkedIn’s version targets similar professional needs. But LinkedIn Horizon focuses strictly on career development. Features include skill-building workshops and recruiter-hosted events. This avoids Meta’s broader social entertainment approach.
Daniel Shapero, LinkedIn’s Chief Operating Officer, stated the timing aligns with hybrid work trends. “Professionals want richer online interactions,” he said. “Our metaverse solves real career challenges. It’s not just virtual reality for fun.”
Early testing involves companies like Unilever and Microsoft. Microsoft owns LinkedIn. The tech giant’s cloud infrastructure supports Horizon’s development. Meta has invested heavily in metaverse technology. Now LinkedIn provides a business-first alternative.
