Facebook Starts Community Gardening Program

MENLO PARK, CA – Facebook announced a new program today. This program helps people start gardens in their neighborhoods. It is called the Facebook Community Gardens Initiative. The company wants to bring neighbors together outside. Growing food locally is another goal.
The program provides tools and resources. Local groups can apply for small grants. These grants help buy seeds, soil, and basic gardening supplies. Facebook also offers free online guides. The guides cover starting a garden, planting schedules, and pest control. People can find these guides on a special Facebook page.
Facebook is working with experienced groups. Partners include urban farming experts and local food organizations. These partners will give advice. They will help new gardens succeed. Gardens can be on rooftops, empty lots, or shared yards. The main idea is shared space and shared work.
“People need real connections,” said Jane Doe, Head of Community Programs at Facebook. “Gardens bring people together. They grow food and friendships. We want to make this easier for communities everywhere.”
The program uses Facebook Groups and Events. Garden organizers can set up a group for their project. They can plan workdays and share updates. Neighbors join the group to get involved. Facebook believes its platforms help coordinate these local efforts.
Funding is available immediately. Community groups in the US and Canada can apply first. Facebook plans to expand the program later. More countries and regions will be added next year. The company sees this as part of its community support work.
